In Honor of the Preachers Who Show Up
October is Pastor Appreciation Month. In honor of my late uncle Preston, a preacher who showed up for people — here's a gift a whole congregation can give.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month.
My late uncle Preston was a preacher. He was the kind of pastor who showed up — sermons, hospital visits, prayers, the hard days nobody else saw. He gave his life to showing up for people, the way so many pastors do, mostly without anyone noticing.
I think about him every October. And I think about all the pastors doing that same quiet, faithful work right now — sitting with families in waiting rooms, praying over children, celebrating weddings, helping people say goodbye to the ones they love. Often without knowing how much their presence meant.
Here's what I've learned from three decades in education, watching retirements and farewells up close: people hold on to the words, the stories, and the faces that remind them their work made a difference. Pastors rarely get to hear those stories. They give encouragement far more often than they receive it.
So here's an idea for this month. Give your pastor something they'll actually rewatch.
A Moment Saved keepsake lets your whole congregation leave short video messages, voice notes, photos, or written notes — all from their phones, no app needed. One link, shared with the church. Everyone answers one simple prompt:
"Share a moment your pastor showed up for you."
The messages become a keepsake film your pastor can watch, download, and return to whenever they need encouragement. Present it on Pastor Appreciation Sunday, or any Sunday in October. It stands on its own, or alongside a gift card or love offering.
A keepsake starts at just $25. And the value isn't in the price — it's in the moment your pastor presses play, alone in their office on some tired Tuesday, and hears and sees the people who noticed.
In honor of the preachers who show up: let's make sure they hear it.
